Jura Z10 vs E8: Which Espresso Maker is Better?

Jura is a well-known brand when it comes to espresso machines. It has produced high-quality machines since the 1800s and has an outstanding reputation. Today, we will compare the Jura Z10 vs. E8. Although the price tag of these machines is definitely on the luxury end, they will last you for years if you take care of them properly.

Appearance

The Z10 is a bit more angular looking, whereas the E8 has a softer and more classic style. They are similar, and all of Jura‘s machines lean towards a modern look. Still, the difference might be enough to swing you from one model to the other.

The other physical difference is that the Z10 is bigger by about an inch in each direction. This won’t be a deal breaker for most people, but if you are in the city and have a small kitchen, you should make sure they will fit in yours.

Brewing Options and Sizes

Both models can create single shots of espresso, 2 x espresso, coffee, 2 x coffee, caffè barista, americano, espresso doppio, cortado, macchiato, cappuccino, cappuccino with an extra shot, flat white, flat white with an extra shot, latte macchiato extra shot, a single portion of milk foam, and hot water.

The Z10 has many additional drink options, so if the cost is not an issue, it is worth the added expense—especially if you will use its cold brew feature, which the E8 does not have. The Z10 can also make cold brew espresso, cold brew coffee, 2 x caffè barista, 2 x americano, a jug of coffee for parties, cold brew cortado, cold brew macchiato, caffè late, cold brew caffè latte, caffè latte extra shot, cold brew cappuccino, cold brew flat white, cold brew latte macchiato, a portion of milk without foam, and hot water for green tea.

Controls

Both models have intuitive touchscreen controls. The Z10’s is a 4.3-inch design, while the E8’s is 2.8 inches. The Z10’s is more intelligent; you can create, store, and copy personal preferences. This allows for greater ease of use if you like customizing your drinks.

Both machines can connect to Jura‘s app, but the Z10 has built-in wifi. For the E8, you will need to buy their Smart Connect.

The Z10 wins in comparison by having a more streamlined interface system and integrations.

Grinder

It’s easy to assume that all high-end grinders are the same. However, Jura‘s upgraded grinder in the Z10 is worth a look. The Z10 has its new Product Recognizing Grinder, which recognizes the coffee bean and adjusts the grind in a fraction of a second.

Only the most discerning coffee connoisseurs can tell the difference between that and the E8’s Professional Aroma Grinder. This earlier generation grinder is still very sensitive and creates high-quality, uniform grounds.

Spouts

If you want to be able to make double americanos or caffè baristas, spring for the Z10. Both machines have duel spouts, enabling them to make two cups of coffee and espresso. However, the Z10 has a slightly broader range of what it can create doubles of because of its hot water system.

You can also move the height and width of each machine’s spouts. The Z10 goes higher to accommodate the jug for brewing coffee for larger groups of people.

Capacity

The Z10 has a 25% greater water capacity, making it a clear winner for people that don’t like to refill water tanks. It holds 81 oz versus the 64 oz of the E8. 

The Z10 holds approximately 20 servings of coffee, and the E8 holds 16.

Maintenance

Both machines have the same high-end water filtering and cleaning systems. Jura is known for its automatic one-touch milk cleaning system. They also have an integrated rinsing, cleaning, and descaling program.

So which should you choose?

The Z10 is hands down the machine with the most features. Cold brew is becoming increasingly popular, and the E8 can not compete with the Z10’s cold brew system. The Z10 also has a better grinder, larger water and coffee capacity, and integrated wifi to connect with Jura‘s app easily without extra parts. The Z10 also wins by being able to store your drink preferences and not have to customize each time.

Most of the additions to the Z10 make it more streamlined to use, but the E8 is still user-friendly. While the Z10’s features are excellent, only some people need them. Most coffee enthusiasts will not notice the difference between the grinders, and not everyone loves cold brew.

Either machine is a great choice; ultimately, the decision between these two machines comes down to budget. If you choose the E8, you will still get a great espresso machine that should last for years.
